Surreal and Whimsical

Picture
Len Sherman's art covers a range of styles. No one has ever really identified his genre... why? Because he can do it all! As you view through his website and as he continues to upload his work, you will see that he has something for everyone - all genres, all prices... While you wait to see more, why not join him in a beer? He can be found on his 50 acres, hiding from chores as he sneaks out back to sip a beer! Cheers, eh?

Van Gogh's original painting showed his ear but after he cut it off, I painted him as if he cut a hole in the canvas to remove his ear.
Anne Bonny was one of the few women pirates that plundered the seas. When she and her husband Calico Jack were captured, he was hung and she was imprisoned because she was pregnant. She wasn't hung once the baby was born and whether she escaped or not is unknown. Perhaps she's still sailing the 7 seas, who knows?
A spiritual magician lives on this tiny island that is powered by electrical storms. When he feels like settling down for a spell, he plops the island into the sea and rows ashore in his dinghy.
King Neptune and Thor fought over the world, Thor controlling the land and Neptune controlling the sea. Whenever a ship crosses the Equator, Arctic Circle or Antarctic Circle, seafarers toast King Neptune for safe voyage. So as he sails round and round the world, the guy in the lifeboat keeps toasting him, hence the trail of empty grog bottles.
Mercator is responsible for the longitude a latitude lines for accurate navigational charts. He's shown checking out his map of the world and if he becomes lost, his homing pigeon will take him back to his port.
This painting depicts Christopher Columbus with his ships, the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. Although the painting contains a lot of symbolism, If the numbers on the wings are put in the correct order, the date is 1492, the year he discovered North America
